The highest-ranking cadet at the Augusta Military Academy, named every year from 1884–1984.
The Role
The highest-ranking cadet
In the beginning, the First Captain was always the Captain of “A” Company. As the school grew and the cadet population grew larger, the need for a separate group of cadets to lead the corps became apparent and the Battalion Command was formed.
The Corps of Cadets was organized similarly to the U.S. Army, with the cadet population consisting of a Battalion, up to 7 Companies, each of which had two platoons of three squads each.
The Battalion Commander was the highest ranking cadet. Assisted by an executive officer and a staff of several captains and sergeants, the Battalion Company was responsible for corps morale, cadet conduct and discipline, cadet mentoring, support for school administrator’s decisions in all matters. The Honor Committee, the Roller Rifles drill team, the armory, the Recall, and the Color Guard were all under his direct leadership.
